CHILD RAPE & ABUSE
CHILDS (Children in Legal disputes), South Africa

CHIlDS was started by Anne-Marie Rencken-Wentzel in 1987 - it's mission was to focus on the plight of Children in Divorce. We have achieved the following over the years:
Assisting with the setting up of the Family Advocate's Office
Assisting with the setting up of SAAM (South African Mediation Association)
Programmes in school's called "Through the eyes of a child, a programme for parents and children at the time of divorce"
Volunteered work to assist at the Family Advocate's Office
Registering as an NGO
Working with and serving on the Committee dealing with the Family Court and developing a model for a Family Court in Johannesburg
Setting up of support groups in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town
Assisting and serving on the United Natons Working Group - Modern Slavery
Training volunteers in mediation, family counselling, supervised access

Our year calendar was constructed from the "hot issues" that came up last year that members, and people on our mailing lists mostly queried. Although maintenance is a key issue and can never be ignored, we find that we are able to successfully deal with these queries within our support groups or through Shlomo, who handles all our legal queries.
We currently have one group in Johannesburg, one in Cape Town and two in Durban.
