CHILD RAPE & ABUSE
NON- EPILEPTIC SEIZURES LINKED TO CHILD ABUSE

Has anyone heard about non-epileptic seizures linked to child sexual abuse. These seizures generally begin in the 20's-30's or later. They tend not to respond to medications that control epileptic seizures.

Reference:  Schindler and Ramchandani of Dept of psychiatry MCP, published in Psychosomatics 1993 34 (1):70-9. 

They found that most of 20 neurology patients referred for workup of "pseudoseizures" actually had dissociative symptoms. There is one article on a study in Vienna which found that one in three children experiencing abuse were reabused by the system designed to protect them, and that one in six were reabused in psychotherapy! There was a pediatric article that discussed the psychopharmacology of treatment of dissociative disorder/petit mal--and several adult and pedi articles on psychopharmacology of treating either petit mal or dissociative disorder. There were abundant articles on dissociative behavior showing it resulting from all kinds of trauma.  There is one article proposing that dissociative states can actually be "caused" by hyperventilation.
