Inspiration
Untitled by rape survivor, Vumile Mabusela

Feelings of emptiness and longing
An avalanche of lies and empty promises
Empty and unfair
Expectations of how I should be treated
Walls of my principles are closing in on me
Suffocating me
Threatening to come crashing in on my sanity
Crashing in on my self-awareness
My self worth is at the hands of a few
A few who know not my well being
A few who feed on the pieces of my left over from the collapse of my being
The few who seek opportunity in weakness,
Who revel in the confusion of fellow beings
I fear nothing else but my fellow beings
Those capable of instilling in me,
Behaviour that is not of a nature to me
Those who reduce other beings to a couple of digits
He who feels no wrong in rearranging the depths of another being
Those whose esteems are moulded, shaped and defined
By the rough edges of other people’s loss, terror, fear, self worth
They say the gods are watching
That all will be fine, if you pray
You will be forgiven
Forgiven for hurting
Forgiven for feeling a sense of loss
When a loved one is destroyed to soil
Or ashes or that which the body believes will happen when it ceases to hope,
Wish, hate, love or breath
The gods forgive those who’ve been good and obedient
Are those who destroy in others the faith in a god?
Those who reduce gods to nothing more than an ideology designed to target the fearful
Are those forgiven?
Those who awaken the evil feelings of hate, destruction and faithlessness
Are these beings part of forgiveness?
