Frequently Asked Questions
What is
CIETafrica and what does it do?
CIET stands for Community Information, Empowerment and Transparency. CIET
started in 1985 as the Centre for Tropical Disease Research, a postgraduate
medical institute in Mexico. CIETafrica is one of the CIET group of foundations
dedicated to building the community voice into planning. The worldwide
network of CIET professionals, from a variety of disciplines, provide
technical support to communities to enable them to participate in an informed
way in decisions that affect their lives
What are
CIET methods?
CIET methods involve communities in gathering quantitative and qualitative
evidence. CIET analysis focuses on impact, coverage and costs of public
services, and community-led solutions that are sustainable and locally
relevant. These solutions emerge from systematic dialogue on the evidence.
These are aggregated, along with the indicators, for planning and communication
at the district, regional or national levels.

and in Uganda and Tanzania on performance of public services such as land,
agriculture, health and the police. CIET also monitored child rights in
Costa Rica. CIET has conducted other projects in Pakistan, Nepal, Nicaragua,
Uganda, Bolivia, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America and
