SUPPORT – INFORMATION – ADVICE

The PMB Gay & Lesbian Network launched KwaZulu-Natal’s first Gay & Lesbian Helpline on 6th July 2007.
The telephonic Helpline service provides callers with a range of information and advice that is specific to gay and lesbian needs as well as supportive counselling and referrals to those grappling with issues related to their sexual orientation.
A feasibility study conducted by the Network in 2006 identified the need for a Helpline as there are very limited services that are capable of responding to the specific needs of gay and lesbian people in KZN Midlands. The Helpline will address these needs.
“It was my personal experience of rejection and the lack of anyone to turn to for support that motivated me to establish the Network.” said Anthony Waldhausen, Director, PMB Gay & Lesbian Network. Now, with the establishment of the Helpline, gays and lesbians will get the understanding and support they so often desperately need!
The PMB Gay & Lesbian Network is proud of the dedicated team of volunteers and psychologists and the support received from Lifeline in the establishment of this Helpline.
The Helpline number is (033) 3426500 and will be in operation three days a week from Friday to Sunday between 6pm-10pm.

Volunteer counselors, trained by Lifeline are available to assist callers during these times and provide a respectful and confidential service.
