Cops catch man suspected of raping toddler

A man who is suspected of raping a three-year-old girl in the south of Johannesburg over the weekend, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Superintendent Chris Wilken said police followed up information which led them to a place in the south of Johannesburg where they arrested the man just after 2pm. The man was expected to appear in court soon.

Johannesburg area commissioner, Oswald Reddy, expressed satisfaction at the arrest.

Both children had to undergo emergency surgery The toddler was raped and sodomised by a man apparently known to her family, and left for dead in a hole next to a road.

Police are still searching for a man who brutally raped a six-year-old girl in Alexandra, also over the weekend.

Both children had to undergo emergency surgery for injuries sustained during the rapes.

Reddy said the police would not "rest on their laurels" until the man who raped the six-year-old had also been arrested. - Sapa
