Bail for rapist principal
Sowetan, 11 June 2008, Frank Maponya
Mpfunzeni Tshidino, the school principal arrested on
allegations of raping a 14-year-old girl, was yesterday granted R3000
bail. He appeared in the Masisi periodical court in Limpopo following
his arrest at the weekend.
Tshidino, 54, is principal of the Domboni Primary School. He will appear
in court again on July 25.
Tshidino is accused of raping the girl last week after he gave her a
lift while she was walking home from school.
After the rape, Tshidino allegedly gave the victim a R100 note to buy
her silence. But the girl told her parents, who reported the matter at
Masisi police station and Tshidino was arrested.
Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said yesterday the
alleged rape was being investigated. “We have arranged counselling for
[the girl] so she can deal with the ordeal,” he said.
Tshidino was described by a villager as “an untouchable who always got
his way with women in the village”.
