Five AIDS NGOs barred from participating in review of UNGASS commitment
Five AIDS NGOs, three from South Africa and two from Namibia, have been prevented from participation in the review of the United Nations General Assembly on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS) declaration of commitments. The NGOs were excluded from a list of accredited civil society participants because of objections from their respective national governments. The five organisations are Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), Friends of TAC, and AIDS Law Project (ALP), all of South Africa, and AIDS and Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA) and the AIDS Law Unit of the Legal Assistance Centre (ALU) both of Namibia.
