NEWS London - A detective who helped investigate the murder of an English schoolgirl and read a poem at her memorial service was being questioned by police on Friday on suspicion of possessing child pornography. Detective Constable Brian Stevens and another officer were arrested on Thursday as part of an investigation into child pornography on the Internet, said Cambridgeshire Police. Stevens worked as a family liaison officer for the Cambridgeshire force in eastern England, and was assigned to work with the family of 10-year-old Jessica Chapman. Jessica and her friend Holly Wells, also 10, vanished from their hometown of Soham on August 4, prompting weeks of front-page headlines and a nationwide outpouring of worry and grief. Their bodies were found in a nature reserve 11km from their homes two weeks later. School caretaker Ian Huntley has been charged with their murder. Stevens and an unidentified constable who also worked on the murder investigation are accused of "inciting others to distribute indecent photographs of children." The arrests are part of an international investigation led by the FBI targeting people who buy child pornography from US-based pay-per-view websites. Police said the charges were not related to the Soham murder investigation. - Sapa-AP © Speak Out Terms of use
