CRIME DOWN, RAPE UP IN USA
OVERALL CRIME VICTIMIZATION RATE DECREASES 10%, BUT SEXUAL ASSAULT RATE SOARS -
Last week, the US Justice Dept's annual crime victimization report showed violent crime in the U.S. dropped 10.4% last year, the largest plunge in the 26-year history of the government's annual survey tracking such crimes. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/cv99.htm

According to this same report the incidence of rape increased by 20% and sexual assault increased by 33.3%; important data not highlighted by the report, says the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
