to change its practice of removing children from abused monthers. (New York-AP) The class action suit was brought against ACS by mothers who had had their children removed from them because they were abused. Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Jack Weinstein said yesterday that he is convinced the agency "is too ready to take the child away from battered women who are otherwise capable of protecting their children." The judge said he would consider issuing a federal injunction against the practice but gave Scoppetta six months to reform the agency's policies. The ruling came during the trial, which is expected to continue for at least another week. © Speak Out Terms of use |
