SPEAKOUT
Counselling in a remote area? 23 March 2009
Could you perhaps suggest
a rape councilor in or near the Bela Bela (warmbaths) area of South
Africa? The event happened many years ago but the pain lingers on and
needs to be addressed albeit beyond the grave.
Thank you
SpeakOut!:
Pretoria has the closest rape counselling organisations that we know of,
but why don't you or the person you know who is experiencing
difficulties call The Stop Women Abuse helpline of Lifeline - I have
pasted their number below. If they cannot give you a counselling
organisation close to you, then they do very good telephone counselling.
You or your partner can choose to speak to a man or a woman, but frankly
as someone who has been raped myself, these counsellors are generally so
good that I don't feel that their gender matters, but of course, we are
all different.
It is good to do a lot of reading about the subject, we have a list of
books - but too our website is very comprehensive. The most important
thing for a partner of such a person is to listen openly and to
understand post traumatic stress which can persist for years.
