International Day against Homophobia, 14 May 2008

This Saturday the 17th May marks the date for the International Day against Homophobia. OUTRhodes; the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and intersex support society at Rhodes University; is planning to have a March Against Hate. For this reason it is envisaged that your organisation provide some form of statement of support for the march to be read at the final destination. The march is planned for this coming Friday, 16 May due to the fact that the actual day is a Saturday and is intended to draw as much support as possible. Below, appears a call to action sent to other members of the community and other university societies and structures that outlines the causes that the march aims to highlight.

It would be greatly appreciated if your organisation could furnish a statement of support for the march before lunch time on Friday.

I hope this e-mail finds you well and look forward to your favourable response.

Kind Regards
James Hamilton
OUTRhodes President

SpeakOut!

SpeakOut, an organisation opposed to abuse, supports the Rhodes march to mark the International Day Against Homophobia. We support the right of individuals to love whom they wish. We believe that every relationship should be marked by respect - whether between lovers, colleagues, friends or those you pass on the street.

SpeakOut hails any individual or group that opposes hate whether it manifests as discrimination, racism, sexism, abuse, ageism or any other mechanism that attempts to categorise and degrade others. Our philosophy echoes that of the Hindu philosophy of Namaste - or The God in Me, Honours the God in YOU. If God created each of us in his or her image, what gives us the right to discriminate against any of those God created.
