READERS  SPEAKOUT

Dear Speak Out,

I was wondering if you are still looking for volunteers. I am going to be living in Cape Town for the months of January and February, and I would love to volunteer some of my time, especially to something like SHEP.

I am a professional documentary filmmaker, with a background in public policy. I have worked as a health volunteer in the past, including work with rape victims while I was living in Washington, DC.

I am going to be on a sabbatical of sorts during my stay in South Africa, but would still love use my skills and experience for a good cause while away.

I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

SpeakOut! We do not use volunteer services, thank you. Enjoy your stay in Cape Town.

Thank you for your response, but I'm a bit confused. On your website (http://www.speakout.org.za/events/main.html), it says:

SHEP Rural Initiative desperately needs volunteers to assist with the completing of questionnaires that is part of the research methodology....Due to limited funding though we are unable to pay volunteers at this stage. SHEP can assist with transport.

Perhaps your site has not been updated. At any rate, if you can recommend other organisations who do work on women's health and social issues, I'd be most grateful. As I'm not from Cape Town, I'm not familiar with the groups that are active there.

All the best,

SpeakOut! We are not SHEP, we are SpeakOut. Try Rapcan, Rape Crisis, Childline, the Saartje Baartman centre, all of which offer good services.
regards
