CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL, NOVEMBER 2000 1999 SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE SURVEILLANCE REPORT Sexually transmitted disease surveillance, 1999, presents statistics and trends of sexually transmitted diseases in the United States through 1999. Selected findings: the highest rates of gonorrhoea among women in 1999 occurred in the South. There was no meaningful change in the reported gonorrhoea rate among women between 1998 and 1999; and in 1999, the reported rate of primary and secondary syphilis among men (2,9 cases per 100 000 makes was 1,5 times greater than the rate among women (2,0 cases per 100 000 females). This annual publication is intended as reference document for policy makers, programme managers, health planners, researchers and other who are concerned with the public heath implications of these diseases.
