SURVIVOR'S STORIES
Julie's story: From Hell to Heaven, Date Rape, 2007

FROM HELL TO HEAVEN We arrived at his place; unwashed dishes piled in the sink with ants roaming around them made my stomach churn, the one roomed house was filthy and a heavy foul smell hung in the air. He did not hide his intentions of wanting sex and when I realized this, I told him I wanted to leave but nothing had prepared me for the worst, he forced my helpless body on the smelly, torn sofa and asked me to undress. I refused, then his tone became sinister and that's when he forced himself on me, ' It's that time of the month" I told him " it does not matter you won't get pregnant" and he proceeded to brutally rape me.
One hour later, shocked and numbed he let me out of his apartment but not before asking me if I wanted something to eat. His nerve was unbelievable. I reported this incident to two people I trusted but it produced no good fruit. For more than 10 years, I could not sleep, envisioning the rapist in my closet, 6 feet tall, his dark hair, skin, and black clothes, beer and cigarette breathe mixed together ( all of it, I never forgot a thing about him) - then one day it hit me, it was Satan trying to devour every minute of my peace, determined to depress and rip me apart but unfortunately for him it will never work out. A few years ago through the Grace of God, I had to let it go - the anger and hurt and hatred for the rapist was being turned toward me, I had to free myself and I did one thing that was probably the hardest, but for the good - I forgave the rapist for he was truly lost, yes, I will not find justice now but God is the avenger, I've been set free and have been able to sleep and remain in peace.
Rape is truly a hellish experience, done by ordinary people with beastly characters and ignorance is only adding to the nightmare. I've dedicated myself to speaking the truth, not being ashamed and trusting in the protection of God. My friends you will be comforted, let's not give up, together we can put an end to this evil. To Men - The best gift you can give to a woman, is treat her like a woman.
